Converging Opinions

My favorite Monday morning question these days is, “Did you see the Sunday circulars for “enter electronic store here.”

I admit I do look, the reason is simple, most of the questions I’m going to get hit up with during the week are based on what folks saw over the weekend. Usually they want to know if the laptop for a $1 is a good deal, do I need a pre-N router or what a good price on memory?

The memory question is usually the most common. Folks always want to know how much a memory card should cost and how much memory they need for their camera… the answer by the way is 1 gigabyte…

To simplify the process I’ve come up with what I’m calling the one gig standard… the lowest price I can find for one gigabyte of memory… I’m only talking about flash memory, the card you would stick in your camera…

Effective today (03.13.07) here are the best prices I can find…

1 gig SD Memory Card $9.99

SD Card

1 gig Compact Flash Card $14.99

Compact Flash

There might be a lower price, but it’s hard to imagine…

The whole point of the one gig standard is to give you a starting point when you go out shopping… prices are always dropping, I can’t tell you the last time I saw an increase… so if you’re at the local photo shop and you see a 1 gig card for $49, you’ll know it’s a bad deal… saw that very deal this morning….

Moving forward I’m going to try to update the one gig standard every Monday morning
